Girl set on fire for objecting to lewd remarks

BHAWANIPATNA: Two youths, including a minor, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly setting a 15-year-old girl on fire when she objected to their lewd remarks. The assault took place in Lanjigarh block, around 24 km from Bhawanipatna, leaving the victim critical with 80% burns.The victim, Tapaswini Rana, a class X student from Madhupur, was returning home from school on Wednesday afternoon when Bulu Das, 19), and the juvenile, 17, passed lewd comments at her, said police. Despite suffering 80% burns, Tapaswini recorded her statement to the police, following which the attackers were arrested. With her condition worsening, she was shifted to Burla medical college on Thursday, a source said.
